Micronotz review, 1985
I remember the first time I pitched this band to Robert Christgau, he skeptically said they struck him as “just another white-boy guitar band.” But I must have made a case for them and he came around, judging both by the fact that I ultimately got the assignment and he gave their later 1985 The Beast That Devoured Itself album a B+.
Randall Roberts on facebook in 2021: “Just found an old press kit for Lawrence, Kansas’ best punk band the Micronotz (before they added ’Mortal’ to their name). It includes a great Chuck Eddy review from the Village Voice in 1985.” So what the heck, I borrowed it from him. I’m sure it’s in my file cabinet somewhere, but this was a lot easier. (Still, “no music since Paranoid which sounds heavier”?? I dunno about that, Chuck-at-24. Also, what’s with the “which” where a “that” should be?)

The Burroughs connection makes sense now I know they're from Lawrence, Kansas.
